Her story is that of pain, tragedy, and horrors beyond anything you could ever imagine.
Her beauty is beyond compare, and she will drive you to do unspeakable things.
Her murder is the thing that will seal the nail on your coffin.
Her revenge will be sweet.
She is Tomie.
Today’s #13DoH2k18 creature is my take on Junji Ito’s fem fatal, Tomie Kawakami, and I’m happy to announce that my look is also part of a collab with the supremely talented Hazel Zu, of @hazelpaints on Instagram and YouTube. Hazel is awesome, and this is our second collaboration – the first was for Seven Deadly Sins which you can check out here.
Our collab is centered around the horrific works of Junji Ito. If you are unfamiliar with his works – he is a Japanese horror manga artist. His illustrations are the stuff of nightmares with a touch of ethereal beauty. In the mood to be spooked? I highly recommend checking out his work. If you’d like to listen to the stories, Horror Show Mickey has a series dedicated to sharing some of Ito’s stories on Youtube – follow the link to listen.

Hazel and I chose different characters of Ito’s work to depict. Her look is from the short story collection, Haunted House, and the inspired by the character, Souichi. I love the juxtaposition of the character that she painted on her neck and chest and the gore and SFX on her face. AMAZING. SIMPLY AMAZING.
I love how detailed her portion of the collab turned out. Those crazy eyes are PERFECT! She encapsulated Ito’s work to a T. Her shading and work, in general, is just amazing. When I grow up I hope that I’m half as good as a body painter as Hazel is.

Also, she does the most whimsical line work. Personally, and I may be biased, but she is also one of the kindest and most genuine folks in the beauty community! It is always a pleasure when we get to work together and I really, really, really hope we can do another collab soon!
PLEASE GO FOLLOW HER ON INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBE.
—–TOMIE—–
My portion of the collab centered around Tomie, specifically I wanted to duplicate a specific cell illustration from one of Tomie’s tragic stories. Originally, I wanted to paint an interpretation of Tomie being split into different pieces and then those pieces turning into new Tomies… but as I didn’t have enough spoons the day I did this makeup, I decided to go classic. Below is a side by side comparison between my inspiration and look:
I would like to note that it is a pain in the biscuits to create a seamless white makeup base, especially if you have any kind of facial redness – but the combo of Ultra HD foundation and the Danessa Myricks Waterproof Creme White works wonders.

If you are curious about Tomie’s stories, you can pick up the Ultimate Tomie Collection Manga on Amazon – I have it, and I think it is beautiful (in a very creepy, violent, and deranged sort of way). Do you enjoy Junji Ito’s writings and illustrations? If so, tell me who your favorite character or storyline is in the comments below.
Again, please make sure that you go check out Hazel’s work, and in the meantime, I’m going to go back to filming and editing so that I can catch up my last few posts of 13DoH!
