Hello, Dah’lings! I’ve got a little review for you today. I’m going to apologize ahead of time and say I’m sorry for not pushing this out on Friday. My Mom and her wife were visiting this past week, and I thought that I had everything ready to go … but I was wrong. So, thank you so much for your patience! Love you, lots!!!
For today’s little post, I’ll be giving you my thoughts on the reasonably new Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator from Marc Jacobs Beauty. Disclaimer: The Glow Stick was sent to me, for reviewing purposes, by Influenster, but all thoughts and opinions expressed in this blog post and the accompanying vlog review are 100% my own.
I’ve been using the Glow Stick in various looks over the last few weeks, so I think I’ve used it enough to give an honest review for you.
Upon opening up the VoxBox, I burst into laughter at the type of packaging. It looks like a fancy deodorant container. I may be weird, but it gave me the giggles. The amount of cream highlighter is about 0.49oz and can be dispensed by just twisting up from the bottom of the container.
The “glistening illuminator” is just a fancy word for the highlighter. Payoff-wise, the cream isn’t ridiculously pigmented – which is what you want, or at least it’s what I look for in a cream highlighter. It gives a nice, subtle glow and even shows up on my fair complexion. BONUS: It didn’t aggravate my sensitive skin!!! I haven’t tried this on some of my friends with super dark complexions. I am a little concerned that it may show up a bit ashy.
I’ve worn this highlighter on a bare face, over just cream foundation, and over powder foundation and have found that I prefer to put this on before I set my face with any powder product. If you apply it over the top of an already powdered face, it looks cakey and can potentially pull up any foundation since the formula is quite ‘grabby’ at first. If you have a good complexion and don’t like to wear any foundation – I think this would look awesome on you. I found that using a combination of a beauty blender and my finger helps give the best application. The beauty blender helps to diffuse the product, and my finger helps build up the product in specific places if that makes sense.
The cream highlighter retails for $42 at Sephora. The price is a little high for me and had I not been included in the VoxBox; I probably would not have purchased it… just because I’m not that much of a fan of cream highlighters. That is slowly changing, though, so who knows. Keep in mind, with anything Marc Jacobs (or any high prestige or boutique brand) you are paying for the product as well as the name.
PRO TIP: If you really want this highlighter to be seen from space, try dusting a little bit of Kat Von D Beauty’s Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck overtop. Thuderstruck and the Glow Stick are almost a perfect match. Thunderstruck does have a little bit of a pink shift to the color, but other than that, it is perfect.
Pros:
- It looks natural and not too over-the-top.
- Easy to apply
- Blends out easily
- Twist up to dispense product
- Travel Friendly
- Great for sensitive skin
- Suits a variety of undertones
Cons:
- The price point: $42 for 0.49oz of product
- While the packaging is travel-friendly, it does look a bit like a deodorant.
- Doesn’t set well on top of powder
- Oily skin types may not want to overuse this product because it does have a fair amount of slip to it.
SOMETHING AWESOME HAPPENED, AND I ACTUALLY WON SOMETHING! When you’re in a VoxBox campaign, Influenster hosts Twitter or Instagram parties where everyone in the VoxBox chats and shares images across those platforms on the chosen day. I entered the Instagram party with one of my images and was one of four chosen winners!!! I never win anything, and if I do – it’s because I’ve won by default. When I found out, I was so frakkin’ excited!!!
I ended up winning Marc Jacob’s newish mascara, the Velvet Noir Mascara! I’ve had my eye on it for a while but haven’t splurged on it yet. The package arrived with a beautiful note from MJB and a little MJ bag — which is now sitting on one of my tables in my office. I probably won’t be opening the mascara just yet since I have a few other mascaras that I need to go through and use before they go bad. (Pictured below: Top image is the one I posted on IG, and the bottom image is all of the goodies that arrived for winning!)
Thank you all so much for listening (or reading) to my rambling review. I shot the review at around 4am two weeks ago and I just rambled and rambled and rambled. I hope that this review helps you. Feel free to ask me any questions int the comments below or on social media.
I would like to give a special thanks to Influenster and Marc Jacobs Beauty for giving me the opportunity to try this highlighter – AND for selecting my photo as one of the winners during the Instagram VoxBox party.
