DIY Matcha Face Mask ft. Pure Leaf Matcha Tea + Review / Influenster #PureLeafHomeBrew

Tea is tasty. I have dedicated TWO whole drawers in my kitchen to my tea stash so when Influenster was like “Yo! Do you want to review some tea?” I was like HECK YES I DO! So they did, and here we are! I received two different kinds of matcha from Pure Leaf; Pure Leaf Matcha Pure (aka plain) and Pure Leaf Matcha Ginger.

Realizing that this was the first post and video for the new year, I decided that it should be a bit different so… DIY TIME it is! This DIY is fairly simple and is right up there with the LUSH face masks that I occasionally buy when I’m in need of a little retail therapy pampering, but before I get into it – lemme talk about the tea. MATCHA!

— PURE LEAF MATCHA TEA —

Each container contains 12 (1 gram, each) sachets. The tea is derived from single origin green tea leaves in Japan. Apparently, now that I’m re-reading the little card that came with my voxbox – the leaves come from the Rainforest Alliance Certified tea estates in Kagoshima, Japan. Fancy.

One container costs about $7.99 each, which is a bit expensive – especially for only 12 packets of tea… eh. I’m not a fan of the price, but that’s mostly because I love tasty INEXPENSIVE teas. C’est la vie.

Okay so to make matcha you’re supposed to have a bamboo matcha whisk… which I don’t have so I improvised by using my battery-operated milk frother thing and it worked just fine. If you would like to use the bamboo whisk, it will take a little wrist grease, and you will get a frothier tea, but I’m okay with the easy way out.

It’s nice that these teas come preportioned, ALTHOUGH, I do find that when I make myself a cup of tea I use two packets instead of one… it’s richer. You should try it if you get some of these.

Pure Leaf Matcha Pure: It’s your standard matcha. Straight up, no additional flavors or sweeteners. It’s okay, but it is a little bitter.
Pure Leaf Matcha Ginger: My personal favorite, but that’s probably because I frakkin’ love ginger things PLUS it’s good for your tummy. The ginger to matcha balance is awesome, and I don’t need to add any sugar or honey. BONUS!

Related side note: Sometimes, Influenster has these things called Twitter Parties where folks who are in each campaign hop on twitter for 30 minutes to an hour, interact, answer questions, etc with each other… and then Influenster chooses winners! For the first time since I joined in 2015/2014ish, I WON A FRIGGIN TWITTER PARTY! The prizes vary from party to party but for this party in particular — it was a Mega Vox Box. I don’t know what’s in it, but I will update you when I get it. Pinky swear.

Congrats to: @londonbrolly , @ohjaechaos, @kayshedden, @TryItJessSayin, and @FrustratedinNO! #PureLeafHomeBrew @PureLeaf #contest

* diy face mask time *

Matcha & Spirulina Face Mask
Matcha & Spirulina Face Mask:
– 2 or 3 packets of Pure Leaf Matcha Ginger *or Matcha Pure*
– Juice of a half of a lemon
– 1 tablespoon of Honey
– 1 tablespoon of Avocado Oil
– 1.5 tablespoons of Spirulina Powder
– Electric Whisk / Handheld Milk Frother Thing
– Small Bowl

Directions: Put everything into a bowl, whisk till homogenous, and then slather everything onto your CLEAN face. Wait 15 minutes then rinse off and pat dry. Follow with your normal skin serums/moisturizers. Store any extra facemask goop into a sealable container and put it in the fridge – it makes about 3 masks worth of product. It will be good for a week or two.

I only put the spirulina powder in the face mixture because I needed something to thicken it up and make it a little less runny. I’ve made it a few times since then (both ways) and I still prefer the thicker consistency and teal-y green color. Also, if you are thinking about giving these away as gifts – you may want to add a few drops of Vitamin E oil to them as it is a natural preservative and it will keep longer.

Matcha *ONLY* Version
Matcha ONLY version:
– 2 packets of Pure Leaf Matcha Ginger *or Matcha Pure*
– 2 teaspoons of Lemon Juice
– 2 teaspoons of Honey
– 2 teaspoons of Avocado Oil (coconut oil or sweet almond oil, if you want to sub it out)
– Electric whisk
– a small bowl

Directions: Put everything into a bowl, whisk till homogenous, and then slather everything onto your CLEAN face. Wait 15 minutes then rinse off and pat dry. Follow with your normal skin serums/moisturizers. Store any extra facemask goop into a sealable container and put it in the fridge. It will be good for a week or two.

DISCLAIMER: IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN, ALWAYS DO A PATCH TEST ON YOUR ARM BEFORE APPLYING ANYTHING TO YOUR FACE! It will save your butt in the long run if you end up having an allergic reaction to it. Trust me.

Cool, right? So if you are in the market for powered things like spirulina or matcha or cocoa powder and other oils such as avocado, sweet almond, etc… check out your local TJ Maxx or Ross or Marshalls. They tend to have those sorts of things at a reduced price so you’re not breaking the bank. If you don’t have one of those close, there is always Amazon.

anyway…

Let me know if you were included in the Pure Leaf Matcha VoxBox campaign from Influenster OR are planning on picking up the tea OR are going to totally make this DIY face mask. I’m super nosey… 😉

I thought that this kind of video/post would be a switch up from the usual and I would love to know if you have any feedback for me — or if you would like to see particular things like more DIYs or other content. Let me know in the comments and please do let me know how your 2018 is going so far. I’ve missed you guys.

Check back next Friday on my YT Channel for another video… it might just be a 2017 recap or favorites video *(I haven’t decided yet which one I’m going to record. Ha.) I am going to be posting stuff every Friday on my channel, so that’s exciting. Right?

Don’t forget to stay positive and BE AWESOME!

I was literally just thinking this would be fun to save as a gift idea, but oh no, will it last long enough? When you mentioned to add the vitamin E drops for that very purpose XD Read my mind!

Green Tea is an excellent remedy for various skin care benefits such as acne, dandruff and many more. There are lots of green tea skin benefits for the skin to be fresh and look younger. its an amazing herb useful for both internal and external usage.
