Autumn is officially here as of last Saturday and, at least here in Philly, there is a chill in there air. The last few days have been cooler, cloudy, and rainy – PERFECT AUTUMNAL WEATHER! With autumn on the brain, let’s talk about this fallsy-leonine look and the LE Saucebox Cosmetics’ Autumn Goddess Eyeshadow Collection.
The Autumn Goddess Eyeshadow Collection from Saucebox Cosmetics only comes out once a year, around the first of Autumn. I picked mine up *cough cough* two years ago when it was first released. This year, Saucebox Cosmetics re-released their collection for a brief period and then once again, for 48 hours. When this review goes out it should still be available for 12+ hours… so with that, if you like the colors – hop on it and snatch this collection up before it’s gone for another year (hopefully).
Price: Originally $40 / ON SALE NOW $25 USD.
Includes: 5 x 5-gram eyeshadow pans
Available: Saucebox Cosmetics’ Website CLICK HERE for a very limited release!
Released: September 2016
Originally priced at $40 USD when first released, this five pan eyeshadow collection inspired by the hues of Autumn’s favorite flavor and gourd — THE PUMPKIN! It is currently on sale for $25 which is a steal and puts each eyeshadow at $5. The collection includes three matte shadows, one satin shade, and one shimmer. Each pan is the standard SC size of 4 grams, and about 44mm and the collection is just the single shadows, no palette is included so you will have to pop these in the magnetized palette of your choice.
Autumn Goddess Eyeshadow Collection:
– A creamy, white gold shimmery highlight shade.
– A matte, peachy, fair flesh-toned shade.
– A matte, warm mustard shade.
– A matte, rusty orange shade.
– A satin, warm brown with very fine micro-shimmer.
The color palette of this collection is pretty darn spot on for being pumpkin inspired. All warm tones, the combo works beautifully for everyday looks or something a bit more dramatic. My only complaint about this eyeshadow set is that none of the shades have proper names. The stickers on the back all say “Autumn Goddess Collection,” so that makes things difficult when trying to describe them for a voice over or when listing them out for makeup look details… but that’s honestly just a 3rd World problem if ever I saw one. The rest of the eyeshadows that Saucebox Cosmetics offers have names, so I was curious as to why these didn’t.
I wish that Saucebox would keep this set available for a month or two instead of these LE 48-hour releases before they get locked up in the vault until next year. Maybe if folks make enough noise about it, they’ll change their minds and keep it around for a bit… but that’s a big maybe.
As far as color payoff and blendability, each shade works beautifully with each other, and all of the shades are blendable. The mattes are the most pigmented out of the bunch when applied with a brush straight to the face. The shimmer and satin shades can be built up to reach full opacity, or you can foil them to increase their luminosity/payoff. I have found that the satin brown shade can be blended out to a demi-matte finish which is great for deepening the crease.
The matte shades work well as overall colors or as transitioning colors when blending out crease or line work. I have used the mustard and ruddy orange shades as a blush, a time or two, and they blend out without clinging to dry patches or anything.
The shimmery highlight shade is a pressed eyeshadow form of the Cover FX Celestial Custom Enhancer Drops – albeit a little less intense. It is very pretty on those of us with pasty pale faces.
I’ve done a few looks with this set in the two years since purchasing it, but most have been day to day “tame” makeup looks either with one or two of the colors… and like most of my boring looks – I forgot to take pictures of it. If I’m doing a “boring” look, I will take either the mustard shade or the ruddy orange shade and slather that all over my mobile lid area, blending it out into the crease and then slap on some mascara before hobbling out the door.
I did take a picture or two of a few looks using this set, so there’s that… because I’m a responsible beauty blogger (ha).
Overall, this five shade eyeshadow collection is fairly versatile and pretty perfect for those of us encapsulated with all the pumpkin spice feels. In a sea of warm, neutral eyeshadow palettes – this doesn’t stand out as something new and innovative, but remember that this came out TWO years ago and is currently an LE release for the next few hours. For the price, pan size, and prettiness… 25 dollars is a steal. If anything, support small brands because they keep all the bigger brands out there on their toes.
Also, I have to say that Saucebox Cosmetics is one of those brands that does tend to repost looks from creators with both large and small followings… and as a brand is very much artistry based – which makes me happy. So thank you Saucebox for being awesome and giving a damn about the little folks.
—– AUTUMNAL ROAR —–
I haven’t done a creative look, that wasn’t 13 Days of Halloween related, in a hot minute and with everything going on with my family and me over the last two weeks— I’ve needed to de-stress and play with my pretty makeup things. Add to that, that the Autumn Equinox just happened and I have been itching to make something autumn-inspired…
… so this happened, and I am not mad at it one bit.
Given the fact that I missed out on the first LE release of the Autumn Goddess collection last week, I wanted to jump on things and feature it… and that’s what I did. I wanted to revisit some old makeup looks and ideas to refresh things a bit and get back into the swing of creating creatures instead of glamour or editorial looks.
I was playing heavily on heavily contoured, quasi-feline facial lines with just a touch of devilish mischief. Initially, I was just going to leave the finished images with no eye edits, but after thinking about it and looking at my images after I downloaded them to my computer from my camera, I decided that they needed something a bit extra… GO GO GADGET BLACKOUT THE SCLERAS!
Below is what it looks like without the scleras edited. It’s alright, I guess but I prefer the spooky vibe that the edit gives the final image.
Now, I will admit that things would be a heck of a lot easier if I had some sclera contacts… but they are expensive (more so because I would want/need ones that had a prescription) and a bit of a pain to wear and or put in. Therefore, I decided to do the next best thing and hop on over to Photoshop to edit them just a smidge. I wanted to leave the iris normal-ish so thankfully the lenses that I was wearing (Pinky Paradise, Color Vue Big Eyes in Sweet Honey) had a dark edge and I just blended the two. SPOOKY! In all transparency, I did have to add some eyelashes back into the look since the angle and edit kind of nixed them away. Hope you’re not too put out with me doing that. 😉
I’m thinking about recording a walkthru on how I edit the eyes of some of my creature creations via Photoshop to make them look realistic. Does that sound at all interesting to you? I don’t know if you guys want to see straight up makeup or more on how I create images (shooting, stylizing, editing, etc.)…
The coloring, contouring, and fantasticalasizing (it’s a word now, you’re welcome) comes mainly from using the Autumn Goddess collection, AND I did film the tutorial for this look, but it will have to sit on the back burner for a bit just because I am pretty swamped with 13 DoH stuff. If that’s something that you would like to see the tutorial, eventually, let me know in the comments.
By the time I was about finished with the makeup, Mr. Chaos had presented me with the glorious gift of a grilled cheese sandwich. Ooooh, how I do love me a good grilled cheese. They’re simple and satisfying… and I may be biased, but I think Mr. Chaos makes the best ones. Hehe. Speaking of Mr. Chaos, he’s awesome.
Anyways, silliness aside – here are the details for this makeup look:
Makeup Details: @makeupforeverus Ultra HD Foundation in Y225 (mixed with @maccosmetics Hyper Real Foundation in Gold FX), Pro Sculpting Palette (20), and Ultra HD Concealer (Y23), @narsissist Liquid Blush (Torrid), @anastasiabeverlyhills Sculpting Stick (Fawn), @milkmakeup Blur+Set Powder (Translucent Light), @ebaperformancemakeup Encore AAM (Flax, Chestnut, Bronze, and Sand), @sauceboxcosmetics Autumn Goddess Collection, and @coverfx Custom Enhancing Drops (Celestial).

Eyes: The sclera (white area) is edited out, AND I am wearing @pinkyparadisedotcom Color Vue Big Eyes in Sweet Honey. I also added some lashes in post because I felt it tied the eyes to the face.
