There once was a musician who met a Stranger on an old country crossroad.
The Stranger promised this musician fame, fortune, and a brand new sound that no one could resist.
All it would cost the musician… was their soul.
Greedy. The musician agreed quicker than the Stranger could blink.
Months passed. The musician was famous. Record deals left and right.
… until one day.
… and then it all changed.
One song was recorded… and that sound ruined lives.
“Whoever listens to this record shall henceforth be possessed by its melodies.”
The world of music would never be the same again.
Good evening, Dah’lings! Tonight’s 13DoH2k18 character is pulled straight out of folklore. The stories of musicians meeting strangers at middle-of-nowhere crossroads and selling their souls for fame and fortune has always fascinated me. Partly, it’s because the promise of instant fame and fortune is only fools gold. Sure life would be a little easier in some ways but harder in a lot more.
I wanted to take a spin on a possessed makeup look wherein the possession comes from listening to the cursed music.
Another little twist on this idea is the fact that I am getting possessed by “The Devil’s Music.” Now, if you didn’t grow up in the South, specifically the Bible Belt, or in or around a religious area – you might not be familiar with that term. It has been around since Jazz or Blues, I do believe, but growing up I was always told that “The Devil’s Music” was anything heavy metal… like Ozzy, or Guns and Roses, or Godsmack. SO, there is a hidden little easter egg — aka my shirt as a slight nod to this little twist.
This is the second attempt at this look for the 13DoH2k18. The first attempt had me accidentally getting a corneal abrasion from a contact lens splitting on my eye, WHILE I WAS WEARING IT – which then scratched my eye as I was attempting to take it out. It wasn’t fun and it kind of pissed me off because it happened three days before the 13DoH kickoff this year.
Anyways, there is a soft little part of my heart for doing creepy, possessed looks. I think this is partially because when creating a possessed look I don’t have to mess with evening out my finicky skin blemishes and can just slap some primer on and go. Also, I think possessed looks are exciting and have the potential to have a ton of organic texture to them.
This possessed version has a lot of dry skin, contusions, petechia, weird “evil” black veining, chapped lips and is blind. I mention this in the tutorial, but I wish I would have been a little more light-handed with the black veining lines. They seem a bit disjointed from the rest of the look. Oh well, we live and learn.
Oh, if you are using the face gloss, or any kind of simulated makeup gloss, it will most likely move any product that’s not set or not alcohol based off of wherever you place it. The bruise work that I did on my eye faded and smudged shortly after I finished filming the look for this tutorial. Eh, c’est la vie.

—– 13DoH2k18 Update —–
I just wanted to let you guys know that I am still planning on getting 13 different makeup looks out before Halloween. There have been several wrenches thrown into the machine that is this little project, especially in the last few weeks and I will admit that things aren’t going as smoothly as I had hoped.
As of the last day or two, I am currently on a 24-hour cycle wherein I am shooting, editing, and releasing the daily looks. This is not a great way to go about it but it is what it is, and I am trying my damndest to get content out to you guys. If you are not aware, as someone with several chronic illnesses – I am running on a limited amount of energy/functionality. Things take a little longer, I can say the wrong word and not catch it (like in a voice-over), or I may have to take a break to rest. What this means is basically, please be patient with me. I know I mentioned that I’d like to get the tutorials out by 3 pm the day they’re scheduled to go live… but like tonight, I’m barely getting them out before midnight.
I’m sorry for the delay, truly. Today has been CHAOTIC. We lost power while I was editing my video. The file became corrupted, and I had to start from scratch. Then I was on the phone with my hosting service trying to get an issue sorted out FOR ALMOST TWO HOURS… on top of normal everyday stuff.
Let’s just say today; I’m glad that the day is almost over.
I did get one good little bit of information – but, I’m going to be one of those bloggers and say I can’t tell it to you yet.
“… ain’t I a stinker.”
With that, I will be posting TWICE on Sunday to play catch up with my missed post from yesterday. Yesterday’s look was filmed but since it was part of a collab I wasn’t on my timetable and things happen. It should be going up on Monday, and I can’t wait for you to see it. It’s something that I haven’t done before! #nospoilers
I hope that you all are enjoying my 13DoH2k18 post, characters, and tutorials. If you do enjoy these creatures – please take a moment to leave me a comment on the YouTube Tutorial, Instagram post, or this blog post. The engagement helps immensely and it’s always nice to chat with you guys.
Tomorrow’s look will be a little more whimsical than scary.
