Do you ever have those moments where your brain thinks an outfit will be SOOOOOO cute and then you put it on and you instantly regret it? Good, me too.
This, however, wasn’t one of those times – thankfully.
Growing up, I never had a “goth” or “punk” phase. I was just the quintessential band nerd (with a heavy emphasis on the nerd part). My style, since college, has been rather fluid and I wear what I want when the muse is upon me. Most days, my outfits consist of jeans and a pop-culture t-shirt (probably from JordanDene). Then there are days where I dress a little darker, either goth or cyberpunk, or days when I rock some fantasy-esque renaissance fair attire. My favorite days are when I stay in a onesie all day (because… reasons), and then there are other days when I straight up rock a cosplay or something… because I’m a mother fluffin’ adult and I do what I want!
Today’s outfit made me feel like a BAMF!
I am a firm believer that acid green and black are a match made in heaven. It’s something about the inky blackness paired with the neon-vividness of the acid green that just pops. Do you think it works?
For my outfit, at least top items – I am rocking a star-printed sheer, mesh turtle neck and a black denim vest. The turtle neck is a little bit on the scratchy side, but I guess that’s what I get for buying a fairly inexpensive top off of Amazon. The vest is one that I found at Target a few seasons ago, but I’m fairly sure it will be easy to find somewhere on the internet if you are interested.
This wig is the statement piece of my outfit by far – even though I love the little details on the sheer turtleneck top. This wig is from Rockstar Wigs and is their Rhapsody Short style in the color Absinthe. Oh! By the way, the color fluoresces in blacklight or with the Philips Hue Color bulbs set to purple/blue. The wig itself, like the regular Rhapsody style, is super floofy (and yes, that is a technical term) and big, with somewhat unruly bangs if you are wearing it straight out of the bag. If you are wearing it on a windy day (out and about) be prepared and grab a few hair ties or bobby pins to keep it in place. If you want a more stylish way to control your wig, add a pair of welders goggles to the party.

If you’re interested in a makeup tutorial for this look, I did manage to record my process while I caked my face. The look in and of itself is very straight forward and simple. It is actually fairly similar to the Anya (from Anastasia) cosplay that I posted a little over a month ago, minus the dramatic liquid eyeliner and addition of a black/green lip. However, if enough of you leave a comment and want to see how I created this look I will get it together for you.
Random aside:
Has anyone else noticed IG engagement going even further in the toilet after last week’s outage? I’m barely getting half the interaction of what I was getting before the blackout. Which ultimately boils down to not much at all. Go figure. It’s a little frustrating. I don’t want to be that person who put the whole “if you like my work, please turn on notifications so you can see my posts” thing out there – but damn, it is getting tiresome.
The beauty community has shifted slightly over to Twitter due to the Anastasia Beverly Hills and Norvina’s brilliant PR move to get more creators onto their PR “List.”
The surge in “senpai notice me” filling up Norvina’s notifications remind me more and more of a scene from the Hunger Games every time Norvina tweets – even if it’s something mundane like she bit her tongue or something. We follow each other so I get notified when she posts or likes stuff, which is cool, and don’t get me wrong, I would love to be on their PR list for the brow products alone – because I wear so many different wig colors, given my mood or the day… but damn. It is intense.
One thing that really rubbed me the wrong way wasn’t from her, it was from the responses she was getting. See, she tweeted about wanting to see more submissions from POCs (Persons of Color) to add them to “The List” and there were so many folks, who were clearly Caucasian filling up the responses… it made me sad. I want to see ABH and all brands, for that matter, expand their support to people of all shapes, genders, skin colors, etc because I think it will improve the beauty community as a whole – but come on people, READ before you shamelessly self promote.
I realize that if you’re in the beauty community and you are small, you have to hustle to be seen by bigger brands, but come on – common sense and courtesy goes a lot longer selfishness and spamming.
And with that random bit of random aside, I hope you – my wonderful, amazing, brilliant, fantastic dah’ling – have a positively awesome day
