Clouds cluttered the night sky in a small rural town. It was a quiet Friday night. A nondescript girl was on her way to a friend’s party, taking a short cut through one of the many country backroads; when something didn’t feel right. She had been feeling poorly all week, at least until the little rugrat whom she babysat, bit her. This girl didn’t want to cancel plans on account of feeling under the weather. She was looking forward to this social gathering for MONTHS.
Suddenly, pain as red and fiery as hell came out of nowhere. It caused her to double over to the ground, writhing in pain. No one was around, and she knew deep down that something was wrong. A round disc of opalescent moonlight began to peek out from behind a gap in the overcast sky; then, everything went black.
The only thing to pierce the blackness was a faint and horrible howling.
There are little moments where I find random bits of contagious joy in the oddest of places. Today’s bit of happiness is brought to you by two things; my undying love for Takia Waikiki’s “What We Do In The Shadows” movie and my constant affection for JordanDene clothing. What’s even better is when those two worlds collide and guess what?! TODAY THEY DID!
A little over a year ago, maybe longer than it seems, JordanDene released two designs related to What We Do In The Shadows – one a quote from Vladislav “Dead, but Delicious.” and the other, which is my personal favorite [OBVIOUSLY] is a statement made by the Alpha of the werewolf pack, “Werewolves NOT Swearwolves.“
Now, when I say that I have an undying love for that movie, I mean it. It is one of those movies that I have playing in the background, AT LEAST once a week. It still makes me giggle when I watch it even though I’ve watched it countless times.
—– the outfit —–
There’s a bit in the movie where the Alpha werewolf mentions the types of clothing that one should wear on “transformation night,” and I used that as a bit of inspiration for the look.
The flannel shirt was a nod to some tropes of typical werewolves. That particular flannel shirt was one that I found at Goodwill, and it also doubles as a part of my Amy Pond cosplay outfit. Plus, who doesn’t love a good flannel shirt – especially this time of year?
The JordanDene “Werewolves NOT Swearwolves” t-shirt is a crucial element for this look. I mean, you could rock this look with whatever you have in your closet, but still… The color scheme of the shirt is a bit of a reference to the Alpha werewolf’s tracksuit coloring: blue and yellow. I have been ordering overly-large shirts from JordanDene because I like that baggy look and feel recently, and it goes along with the whole “expanding as you transform” vibe. Use my code “ohjaechaos” at checkout over on JordanDene.com to save 15% off of your purchase of $20+. They have a ton of fresh, subtly nerdy designs, including some that would be perfect for under-the-radar Halloween outfits for school. [PS: I realize that this look may seem sponsored, but it’s not… I just love Jordan to pieces, and anytime I can show off her wearables – I do.]
Not pictured were my blue tracksuit pants. I had initially planned on shooting this look during a full-moon; that way, I could get a few full-length, action shots… but alas, that didn’t happen. If you would like to see what pants I was wearing – click here – they’re hilarious, and I didn’t realize that they had a glittery stripe down the side until they arrived at my door.

DIY’d Werewolf Ears: there is a full tutorial on how I made these ears over on Patreon! Please join our little Chaos Community for fun little builds like this and lots more to come!
Faux Werewolf Claws: I found these randomly at one of the Halloween Stores near here. They are thick, glue-on nails that have some detailing on them, and glow in the dark. The nails came with their own glue, but give that I have allergies to adhesives, I played it safe and used Pros-Aide instead. I am not good with nails, and while I do enjoy using the nailwraps from Espionage Cosmetics from time to time – I can not function like a normal human being when I wear glue on nails or have my nails lengthened for that matter. It’s incredible how you can go from having very dexterous hands to not being able to pick objects up off the floor or twist the tightening brackets on your photography equipment… AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ABOUT TRYING TO BUTTON OR UNBUTTON THINGS. ACK! I was a clumsy mess with those things on. They looked cool, sure, but they came right off after I finished filming. Now, if you are used to having long nails and aren’t hyper-aware of the extra-weight that even those nails add to your hands, then you should give these a try!
Fangs: These are from Scarecrow and were apart of the “Deluxe Fangs” dual fang pack. You can find them on Amazon. They are the most comfortable (non-custom made) fangs that I have ever worn. Just follow the instructions to heat up the “customizer” plastic (aka polymorph pellets) and apply them to the inside of the fangs and then push them onto your teeth and hold until they set. I like that they are not some stark white color; instead, they are a more natural creme shade.
CHEST HAIR: To give the effect of a hairy chest, all you will need is some faux fur fabric that will match your hair color. I had a little extra scrap fur lying around from making my werewolf ears. I cut out an inverted triangle with a slight curve at the top, about 6 inches, and then glued it to my chest with some Pros-Aide. If you want to do this, too, make sure you measure how far you want your “chest hair” to go. Also, make sure to try your shirt and hair combo on before you go gluing things down.
—- the makeup —–
This was a fun look to create. I probably spent waaaaaay too much time fussing over my contouring, but I think, in the end, it turned out great! If you don’t have the alcohol activate makeup, then you can use eyebrow pomades, liquid lipsticks, or eyeliners to create the fur-like strokes along the perimeter of the face or the contours of the cheeks. You could even leave them off and rock the overly contoured look… like a werewolf ready for a business meeting or something.
I highly, highly, highly suggest sketching out your wolf nose before doing the final version of this makeup if you are wearing it out. I practiced doing “my werewolf nose” a few times before feeling comfortable with the final shape, which you will see in the tutorial.
You might notice that I used quite a few of the Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencils for this look, mainly for contouring. The formula is exceptionally creamy, and since it is in pencil-form, I can control EXACTLY where I want it to go. Since these are creams, they do not set by themselves, so you will have to set them with powder.
The eye makeup is very elongated and smokey with a subtle nod to the hue that the moon gets when it is full, rising over the horizon. Honestly, you could do the eye makeup portion of this tutorial, throw on a black suit or dress and go as a warlock. YAY MULTITASKING!

Who is YOUR favorite character from What We Do In The Shadows?
Tell me in the comments, because I really want to know! My favorite character is a tie between Vladislav and Viago… but if push were to come to shove – Viago would win. Hands down. I love that little bean of a vampire.
