Hey Dah’lings! I hope you are all doing well… it’s been a while since we’ve chatted and I’m sorry about that. Did you know that you’re awesome? ‘Cause you are.
Things have been sorta crazy here… I’ve been pretty sick the last few weeks months, not really having the energy to do more than just migrate from the bed to the couch most of the week. Summertime is apparently hard on those who have Lupus and this summer is no exception – which is weird because last summer wasn’t nearly as bad. Part of it is the medicine and the rest is just all of my chronillnesses (…it’s a scientific term. /ha) not playing nicely together. Such is the glorious life of a Spoonie. OH! And our kids ended up getting sprayed by a trespassing skunk at 2ish AM in the morning isn’t a very pleasant surprise.
A few good things that have happened in the in-between time. I got to live vicariously through all of you who have been attending conventions and the like. I am constantly amazed at all of the beautiful creations that you guys are posting over on Instagram. Espionage Cosmetics opened up their first storefront, the EC Geek Boutique! In my spare time, I’ve been hitting the drawing (see above) coloring books pretty fiercely. You know, like an adult. AND I have decided to work harder at keeping this little corner of the web going. Pardon me in advance, I am playing catch-up on posts that I started weeks and weeks ago yet never finished. If you are subscribed — there may be a few posts hitting your email/notifications. I’ve decided while things aren’t looking very pleasant on the Spoonie front, I am going to channel my positive-energies out to cyberspace via this blog. It’s not much, but it’s something. In the wise words of the Great Murray: …baby steps… PLUS THAT MEANS I GET TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOU!
Most importantly out of all the recent good things that have been going on, my Mom and her wife came to visit for a few days. They stayed with us at our place which meant that my office/makeup mischief room had to be turned into a guest room once more – totally fine by me. The night our dogs got skunk sprayed was the night/early morning hours on the day Mom arrived. Thank bob for lots of fabreeze, candles, and 24-hour Wallyworlds. I made sure that I saved up enough spoons to be a good hostess – and even if I didn’t have the spoons I am a game-facing champ. I introduced them to Hurt’s Donut Company and had some quality drawing time with Mom… even if I did have to share her with my brothers’ families. (/kidding) It was a good visit, but too short, neither of us wanted her to go back East. I made sure to grab a couple of pictures before they took off. I get my dashing good looks from her. Also, I’m a goofball in front of a camera… especially if there are other people around.
… but now we should get back to the pretty makeup. OH! Before I forget, I’m going to try to get a head-start on the Halloween goodness in September so, hopefully, I will be able to post up some tutorials. Halloween is my jam and I have been in serious brainstorming mode the last few weeks to get the ball rolling. I’m not going to be doing the 31 Day Halloween Makeup Challenge but I will try to do something once a week in October.
A recently picked up the new KVD Metal Crushed Eyeshadow in the color Thrasher and it’s been quietly whispering to me since purchasing… GET OFF YOUR ASS AND USE ME. So I did… and this is what I came up with. I am absolutely digging this steel-blue + burnished gold color combination. What do you think about the colors? I mean super dark grungy eyes aren’t for everyone BUT…. the color combo is loverly. Plus the gold color isn’t really a warm gold, which is perfect since warm golds don’t really look good on my silly, little mug.
If you would like to know what all went in on this look, here are all the details! I hope you enjoy and if you recreate it be sure to tag me via social media (@ohjaechaos) so I can check it out.

While I was painting my face, Mr. Chaos walked in and I asked if he liked it… then later that night I was making varied facial expressions at him as I was talking and he looked at me and said “I can’t take you seriously with that makeup.” Apparently I looked a bit too intense, which was fine because I wasn’t really feeling like wearing it for much longer. I love grunge but for this look I went a little too far down under my eyes and ended up looking like a really classy panda. Regardless, I rocked it. I got a lot of “Boy George” compliments – which is cool. I guess the coolest one was when one of my friends said that I was rocking the @ninablackwolf look today. She’s awesome and you should definitely check out her page if you want. She completely knocks alternative-androgynous(ish)-grungy looks right out of the park and her and her wife are adorable together.
What have you been up to? Lemme know, I’m nosey. 🙂
I guess that’s it for now. Thanks for stopping by and for taking the time to read my ramblings. You are amazing and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

It sounds like you had an exciting summer! I can’t imagine the nasty of dealing with a skunk’s aftermath.
I’ve been doing really well with the medication and therapy for my anxiety disorder so when a chance to apply for a telecommuting job as a publicist for Entangled Publishing I took a huge leap of courage and sent in a resume. I figured I didn’t have much chance since I’m not well educated and I’ve been a SAHM for 10 years but sometimes you just have to try right? Well, I got it and it has been a huge learning curve but I’m loving it. I’m passionate about books the way you are about makeup so it’s a great feeling to be helping books find readers and to be earning a paycheck after so long without one. That said my social media and blogging took a steep nosedive this month. Not enough hours in the day.
I love this look so much but I don’t think I could pull it off. That gold though. Such an awesome shade. I’ve been trying to think of ways to sort of… translate some of your dramatic eye makeups into something a little more every day. I love them but always feel a little like I’m wearing a ballgown in a Walmart when I go for dramatic makeups. lol
The skunk business was no bueno and I’m the lucky person who always gives the kids a bath. I used Burt’s Bees shampoo and did two baths each… I think by the time everything was all said and done it was about 4am. The joys of being a dog-parent.
I am so happy that the med+therapy combo has been helping lots for you and also HELLA CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW JOB! Adult life is no picnic but it seems that you have found something that is both centered around something you absolutely love — and that pays you for doing it! That is a winning combo all around!!! 🙂 About the SM/Blog stuff, it’s better to have time to breathe (and sleep) rather than doing all the things and being a raggedy ole’ mess. Do what you can when you can, your readers and subscribers will understand.
Certain people can pull off grungy very well – I don’t know if I can 80% of the time just because I have a very expressive face when I talk and it always looks a little off sometimes. Hahaha. I think you could rock a more subdued version of this look though – like the blue/gray/black halo eye and a pop of the gold right on the center of the lid or maybe a smokey eye with the gold as a highlight in the corner of the eye? Heck you could probably even get away with doing a blue liner/wing and put a hint of gold on the waterline or along the outer wing’s edge. I definitely recommend picking the gold up if you have an opportunity. It is such a unique color and is soooooooo buttery. I’ve got a post in the works over the Metal Crush shadows I have thus far.
BTW, thank you for always being positive and awesome!
