Hello, my wonderful and amazing Dah’lings! I hope that this post finds you well and having an excellent Wednesday afternoon. For today’s post – it’s actually a TWO-part series all inspired by an amazing scarf that I was gifted *cough cough* last year.
The scarf was from an amazing artist by the name of Sam Skyler and is part of a collection from her fashion line Spirit and Story. Sam is such a wonderful person and has one of the kindest souls and creative sparks out there. She is an insanely talented artist, graphic designer, and artist who does some of the coolest (and most accurate) cosplays I have ever seen. I highly recommend checking out her work and give her some major love!
The Reflection scarf is part of her Honor Collection inspired by Disney’s Mulan and features dual designs. On one corner there are delicate pink plum blossoms with purple branches and the other side features an epic depiction of a Chinese fire dragon (which I will show more of in tomorrow’s post). This scarf is truly a wearable work of art.
A little fun fact about me – I FRIGGIN LOVE MULAN! Growing up as a weird, accident-prone and rambunctious tomboy, I HATED all of the pretty and perfect Disney princesses. Then Mulan came out in 1998 and I automatically clicked with her character. I watched that movie SO MUCH SO that the original VHS tape we had of it stopped working properly AND to this day as soon as the opening notes of the movie come on I can recognize it without being in the same room. This was a fun little tidbit that Mr. Chaos discovered one evening. Ha ha ha.
With the scarf having two designs, I was inspired to do TWO different makeup & outfit looks. Tomorrow’s look (with
I focused most of the color in the eye area to the outer half and blended it out towards my temples to create a high blush mishmash. I then kept the inner corners as bright and as open as possible. Happy with how bright the inner corners were I drew a little swooshy dark purple eyeliner on and even added false lashes because this look had a lot of diffused color with not a whole lot of detail

The cherry blossom crown is something that I made myself with a few sticks of hot glue and about four stems of cherry blossom branches from the craft store, in two different colors – a raspberry toned one and a light pink toned one. If you are planning on making flower crowns – wait until the craft stores have a sale going on. NEVER PAY FULL PRICE FOR FAKE FLOWERS. That’s just silly.
I removed all of the flowers (with their tiny attachment stems) from the main plastic branches, carefully, setting the flowers aside before shaping and quasi-braiding the branches together into a hoop and securing them with hot glue and a little bit of twine.
If there were portions of the crown where I globbed on the hot glue a little too much I touched things up with a little brown acrylic paint, and then went in and meticulously reattached the flowers to the branches. I lost track of how many times I accidentally got hot glue on my fingers – but that’s the nature of dealing with hot glue. You will, unfortunately, burn your finger with it at some point. Heh.
I really love how the crown turned out and it now lives on my studio wall with my other seasonal crowns. Speaking of crowns, You’ll see a new one made from crystal in a few weeks… #spoilers.
I hope you liked this post. I don’t normally do makeup looks inspired by fashion – but this scarf was just calling out inspiration. Please take a moment to check out Sam Skyler and her amazing work. She’s @samskylerart on Instagram.
In the meantime, I am going to tidy up some things for my fantastic Patreon Patrons since tomorrow is the end of the month and we are going to have an exclusive live stream! Yay! Oh, and stay tuned for tomorrow’s Warrior inspired post. Below is a little
