Milk Makeup: Vegan Milk Moisturizer Review | Skincare Sunday

Oh Sunday. You’re a complicated day, aren’t you? Supposedly a day-of-rest and yet the day right before everyone with a M-F job goes back to the grind. I think if you were an astrological sign, you’d probably be a Gemini or at least I think that’s what you’d be. My astrological knowledge is very limited and I’m just trying to be cool… ANYWAY, what was I talking about?

Moisturizer! Yes, that’s what we’re talking about today. Specifically, Milk Makeup’s [new-ish] Vegan Milk Moisturizer. This little gem was released back in December and since then I’ve been giving it a good ‘ole try. Now, before you click off this little post and go to something more exciting, like watching adorable hedgehog videos on YouTube, give me a moment to tell you my thoughts – because I have some.

Milk Makeup Vegan Milk Moisturizer Information:

  • Grapeseed Oil: Antioxidant Protection
  • Olive Oil-derived Squalane: Antioxidant Protection

FTC DISCLAIMER: I did receive this in PR, but I am not being sponsored for this post. All thoughts are 100% honest and my own.

My thoughts:

For starters, I am VERY picky when it comes to moisturizers. My face is sensitive and finicky – so I try my best to NOT piss it off by trying a lot of skincare products. I find things that I like and I stick with them – case and point my affinity for the Dr. Jart Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream that I have been in feels with for almost the last year.

So when I tell you that the Vegan Milk Moisturizer has dethroned my #1 moisturizer – that’s saying a lot.

Even though this moisturizer is my new favorite – and has been for the last two months – I still have a bone or two to pick with it.

First, is the packaging. The packaging is weighty and a beautiful acid-green acrylic… BUT IT’S IN A POT! When will brands realize that potted packaging for creams is not the way to go. They are far less sanitary and the daily (or twice-daily) opening to grab out product introduces a world of bacteria to the cream. And that’s even if you use a clean spatula to scoop out product instead of going in with your fingers. I would love it if this moisturizer came in either squeeze-tube or pump packaging. I can depot the moisturizer into some kind of pump-dispensing packaging, but surprise I’m lazy.

My second hangup with this product is it’s name + marketing = Vegan Milk. Now, that phrasing is on-brand with Milk and “vegan milk” is a thing as far as plant-based milk substitutes go… but for skincare it just kind of seems kitschy. Also, I can’t help but think back to the scene in Meet the Fockers where “you can milk anything with nipples…” I mean nut butter isn’t much better to those of us with a twelve-year-old’s sense of humor either. I’ll give it to Milk, though, they went all out with the “milk” in the branding – they’ve got images of milk cartons and little date “sell by” stickers featuring the milks in the moisturizer. It’s a personal preference, for sure. Kitschy or “trending” names – like CBD-related things, calling things holographic when they’re really just iridescent or duo-chromatic, etc… kind of get on my nerves. I know it’s all a marketing grab, which on most folks probably works, but still.

Now on to the GOOD STUFF:

The Vegan Milk Moisturizer is on the thicker side of facial moisturizers, which I prefer, and while that may seem like the product will then have a harder time soaking into your face – it doesn’t. I have found that this product absorbs into my skin as quickly as some of my water-based moisturizers.

Sensitive skin-friendly! There is no discernable “added” fragrance to the moisturizer, nor any added dyes or colorants to irritate my face. Also, I was a bit concerned with there being aloe in the cream, but after doing a patch test on my arm – there wasn’t enough to trigger any kind of allergic reaction. HOORAY!!!

Bonus: this stuff works great as a hydrating primer under your makeup. Apply it and let it soak into the skin for a minute before applying your concealer or foundation. I especially like this in conjunction with the Flex Foundation Stick – I’ve found that it glides across the skin easier.

In summary, the hype is real for this moisturizer – at least from my perspective. It’s good stuff, even with it’s druthers.

If you have dry, normal, or somewhere in-between – I recommend swinging by Sephora and picking up a sample or two to try. Skincare is a personal thing and I am a big believer in trying something out. Samples are there for a reason! Also, if you have sensitive skin – or are prone to things breaking you out – always do a test patch on your inner wrist.

Now I want to know from you! Have you tried Milk Makeup’s Vegan Milk Moisturizer? If so, what are your thoughts? Let’s talk about it in the comments below. If you haven’t tried the Vegan Milk Moisturizer, what DO you and your skin love?! Share it with the class if you please?

This was the PR packaging that I received – kudos to Milk Makeup for always having Eco-conscious packaging. Taken on my phone.

Omg your photos as always are just so gorgeous! Haha, idk, I just get obsessed with how pretty you always make products look, lol.

This is perfect timing for me though, since I’m about to run out of my current moisturizer (which I am not interested in purchasing again), so maybe I can treat myself and give this a shot!

I got the mini version of this at Marshall’s for pretty cheap. I have been using it for a while now and I still have about half left in my little mini tub. Its so nice and thick that I feel like I don’t have to use as much.
My absolute favorite moisturizer of all time is the IT cosmetics Confidence in a Cream, and this one has a similar consistency, but the IT one is smoother IMO.
Personally I like tub moisturizers they definitely feel more luxurious. This is ignoring the bacterial side of things, but oh well.
