For starters, Carol Danvers – aka Captain Marvel – is an absolute BAMF! I don’t know if you’ve had the chance to watch Captain Marvel (the movie) but it’s a genuine gem of a 90s throwback, right down to shredded jeans, Nirvana punk dreams, pagers, and plaid shirts.
Being a spoonie with a compromised immune system means that I can’t — well, technically, shouldn’t — go to the movie theatres with all the hordes of human folk and their plentiful germs… so I don’t. It kinda sucks to miss all the hype when new movies release… and I have told Mr. Chaos to go to the theatres without me a time or two because I feel bad that he feels he shouldn’t if I don’t. Avoiding spoilers is an Olympic sport when you have to wait until things release AFTER they’ve been in the theatre. Thankfully, movies are releasing faster to video than they ever have in the past thanks to the magic that is DIGITAL DOWNLOADS / COPIES…
…but this is not why I’m sharing my little OOTD with you today. No. No. This is just a random aside because let’s face it, I can’t write a post without at least one. YAY BACKSTORY!
As a female character in the MCU, I like how much of a badass she is. And I appreciate that the movie was directed and written by a lady. GIRL POWER ALL AROUND. I think it’s neat and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.. as well as most of the comics that I’ve read. /nerd.

A few months ago, I received this “Higher. Further. Faster” tank-top from the lovely gems over at JordanDene, as part of their #CleverGirls Ambassador Program. [Which I still think is super awesome just because I’ve been a fangirl of the brand for literally years… ]… and I’ve worn it a lot since then, I just haven’t gotten around to taking a proper OOTD… UNTIL NOW. MUWAH HA HA HA HA!
I’ve been meaning to get my act together and shoot a little Carol Danvers “COSPLAYish” OOTD session but either forget (which is 99% of the time) or when I do remember, it’s already dark out. BUT GUESS WHAT, DAH’LINGS?! I actually did the thing WHILE there was still daylight outside. I’m growing as a CHAOS… I know. 🙂 Anyways, back to the outfit.
As I mentioned, the tanktop is from JordanDene*, they carry loads of other apparel and home goods with the “Higher Further Faster” quote on them if you’re interested. Spoilers: I really like them, all of their clothes are ridiculously soft, AND if you want to give them a try don’t forget to use my code “ohjaechaos” on purchases of $20 or more to save 15% off. [SHAMELESS PLUG ASIDE…]
The jacket is a part of the Her Universe x Captain Marvel release that was carried by Hot Topic earlier in the year. It’s pretty nifty with all the little patches AND the wing pin can actually be detached from the jacket. I like pins so this is a cool little bonus feature. The inside is the Captain Marvel crest pattern and it’s essentially a homage to Danver’s leather flight jacket in the movie. The detailing on this jacket is pretty nerdtastic with all its subtle touches. Hot Topic has a plus-sized version of the jacket still available on clearance, link here. I purchased it at my local store – on clearance when everything was BOGO for $1. I picked up that jacket AND my 13th Doctor jacket at the same time… for $16 total. It was a good sale day!
The jeans aren’t nearly as torn up as the should be for a proper CD cosplay, but after a long day of doing all the things, I couldn’t be arsed to change. Sometimes, life just happens and I’m okay with how the look turned out. They are just random jeans from Target. If you wanted to go more realistic, find a pair of torn/holey jeans with the knees thread barren.
The wig is one that I found on Amazon, by a brand called Vendar. LINK HERE. It’s a decent lace front wig and I like that it has darker roots, which help to hide my random real ones. It arrived with a center part which I had to adjust with the help of a straightener and some patience… I will probably go back and re-part the wig when I don’t have eleventy-billion things-to-do. It’s also a little more platinum than CD’s hair is, which is fixable with a little dye – but again… I kinda have things going on that take precedent.
The makeup for this look was very simple; even out the base with some concealer, contour to make my face look a little thinner, and smudge out a good ole grungy taupe eye. I needed to adjust my brow color since mine are naturally very dark… so I fixed them up with a little EBA Encore Hair & Body AAM – which is the product I use for my faux freckles all the time. I couldn’t quite get to the thin 90s brows… but I did my best with the color. Gotta work with what ‘cha got! My lip and cheek colors were the same, thanks to a Bite Beauty Multistick in the shade Creme Caramel. I forgot to put on mascara… whoops. I don’t think it’s that noticeable.
Makeup Details:
- Milk Makeup Flex Foundation and Concealer in Creme*
- Bite Beauty Multistick in Creme Caramel (is there a theme, who knows…)
- Nudestix Magnetic Eye Stick in Smoke
- Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencils in Endless Cacao, Whatever White, and Dimensional Dark Brown
- European Body Art Encore Hair & Brow Color in Sand
… and that’s it. It’s a pretty simple and quick COSPLAYish look. …. and in a thought surprising no one – I still think I look weird whenever I wear a “blonde” wig. I know that I don’t have to right undertones to pull it off, believably, but I still try – especially when it’s for a cosplay of an awesome lady BAMF! IT’S FOR THE COSPLAY ALRIGHT?! Tee hee.
Anywho. I hope you enjoyed this little gem of a post. I realize it’s a bit of a change-up from my normal makeup and random chaos, but I hope you don’t mind the occasional #OOTD.
Now, three things I want to know from you:
- How was your weekend?
- What closet “COSPLAYish” OOTDs would you like to see me try in the future?
- Who is your favorite Marvel superhero?
Tell me your answers down in the comments below and let’s chat!
