What’s a seismologist’s favorite genre of music?
ROCK AND ROLL.
What can I say? I’m a gneiss girl who loess geo puns.
Okay, okay… I’ll quit it with the geology jokes, even though I could go off on a tangent and punish you all with my geo-nerdery… So, let’s start in on why I’m writing this today’s post. Surprise! It’s a makeup review – specifically Nudestix’s Rock’n’Roller Easy Eyeliner Ink.
Released in February of this year, Nudestix launched their first liquid eyeliner. Their twist was that this eyeliner wasn’t a felt or brush tip applicator … but a roller style similar to MAC’s Rollerwheel Liner which was released a few months prior. Think of the eyeliner applicator as a tiny pizza cutter that gets dunked in a reservoir of liquid eyeliner then you just roll the roller on your lashline, eye area, or all over your face.
Like most, if not all of their products, the Rock’n’Roller Easy Eyeliner Ink comes in a black tin with a mirror on the inside of the lid. These tins are pretty handy if you’re needing to take their products on the go… and if you need to organize your makeup inside IKEA Alex Drawers.
Never use eyeliner? This easy eyeliner ink is for you! It’s as simple as Rock (shake) ’n’ Roll (draw). Rock N’ Roller Easy Eyeliner Ink is perfect for drawing graphic, straight, or curved lines every time as the ultra-fine rollerball glides across the lash line.. Easily achieve eye-lining perfection with this high-pigment, sweat-proof, smudge-proof, waterproof liner that stays put all day. The ink dries down matte, but never flat.
A revolutionary rollerball that glides ink on for easy, straight, smooth eye-lining.

One of the things that swayed my wallet between MAC’s Rollerwheel Liner and the Nudestix Rock’n’Roller Liner was actually the shade range of the latter… Well, that and I like supporting smaller brands, so Nudestix won out, and I picked up all three shades over about a 3-month span.
While you can purchase the Rock’n’Roller liner individually, Nudestix also offers kits containing a roller liner, a magnetic luminous eye color, and their signature mascara for $49. Each shade of the liner comes with a different complimentary shade of their magnetic luminous eye color pencil.
One of the things that I’ve learned when it comes to Nudestix, if they offer exclusive kits – you should definitely snag them up instead of buying things individually. Now, their kits aren’t customizable, and several of their kits repeat on shades… but a deal is a deal, and I am a sucker for a good deal.
—– BLACK MOON —–
Black Moon Rock’n’Roller liner is your standard “non-matte” black ink eyeliner. It doesn’t layer as well as the other two colors, and since it is so dark it’s easier to see patchy areas, BUT if you are just going for a small black liner look or are needing to outline for a graphic liner look, this works pretty well. I tend to use the liner for outlining work or for tracing out a shape before I fill it in with another liner that has a thicker applicator or straight up use an art brush. I wish that it was a matte formulation because I think it would stand out a little more in a sea of liquid black eyeliners.
Please note that this liner doesn’t like to play well with silicone based primers or eye makeup looks that are rather heavy product wise. I’ve noticed that while wearing it on its own, it’s fine and long wearing… but if you cake it on or use the wrong primer, it will pill up if you barely touch your eye.

This bronze shade is gorgeous, and I use this on days when I can’t be bothered to put on a whole face of makeup but want to ooomphf up my eyes just a little bit. The coverage is even and layers well without getting goopy or wonky.
—– Golden Rose —–
This shade is absolutely beautiful for very ethereal or nude no-makeup makeups. Like Bronze Patina, I like to wear this on minimal makeup days or days where I’m wearing my glasses to just add a little extra without going crazy. I’ve seen this color on POCs, and it looks absolutely beautiful – this color just looks incredible on everyone. If you get only one of these colors, get this one.
The only downside to this shade is that you need to make sure to coat the tops of your lashes if you accidentally get a little on them while you’re drawing on your eyeliner.
I love to pair this liner with a nude eye and a bold, dark lip – as pictured below.
Overall, the formula is reasonably long lasting and can, at times, be a pain to remove if you’re using a standard makeup wipe or soap and water. My recommendation is to use micellar water that is specifically formulated to remove waterproof makeup and dab the liner off with a cue tip.
While getting a straight line can be simplified with this applicator if you have shaky hands or are trying to draw an inner flick you may find it to be a little more difficult. The roller’s diameter prevents you from working in very tiny areas… which is fine because you can just grab a tiny brush and perfect whatever you need to perfect or draw.
The only other thing that kinda bugs me is a personal sensitivity area. The lash line on the inner half of my eye is SUUUUUUUUPER sensitive, and the roller applicator can sometimes overstimulate that area – think uncomfortable quasi-tickle sensation. It’s weird to describe, but it is what it is. The roller applicator is hard plastic which aids to its precise line drawing ability… but still… is hard. So, with that being said – if you have very sensitive eyelid/eyeliner area, you might want to stay away from this roller liner… or don’t. I will still use these liners, but I walk on the wild side.
All told, these are roller liquid eyeliners are somewhat of a novelty and yes they weren’t the first nor are they the last to have a “roller” applicator since now Maybelline, Revlon, etc… have them and I’m sure more brands will be coming out with similar products. But they’re still kinda cool, and the liquid eyeliners are pretty good.
Have you had the opportunity to try these liners? If so, what are your thoughts about the formula and applicator… I want to know all about it – so tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
